  The Eyes of Mauthausen Elke is a beautiful aristocratic violin soloist who performs for Hitler on his 55th birthday. A nazi sympathiser, she falls madly in love with dashing SS officer Hasso and follows him to the concentration camp of Mauthausen, in Austria. Working as a secretary, she witnesses the brutal pain and horror inflicted by the regime that she is supporting, and her ideals radically change. In the barracks two Spanish prisoners in charge of the camp's photo lab, steal, hide and save over 2,000 photographs of the horror at Mauthausen. In such a soulless, bloody and sadistic atmosphere, the love story between Hasso and Elke and the Spaniards's almost suicidal challenge can only lead to a tragic ending. |
