Goya’s Ghosts started in Spain in 1792 and tellsthe story, trough the eyes of the genius of painting “Goya”, of a group ofpeople involved in a convulsion period of politic and history changes. The action takes place since the lastyears of Inquisition through de Napoleonic Invasion, until the last defeat ofthe French and the restoration of the Spanish monarchy with the invasive armyof Wellington.
BARDEM is Brother Lorenzo, a shrewd andenigmatic monk who belongs to a very select group of the Inquisition, heinvolves with the adolescent muse of Goya, Inés
(NATALIEPORTMAN), when she’s unfairly accused of heresy and been sent to prison.STELLAN SKARSGARD performs Francisco de Goya, the famous artist, as well knownbecause of his coloured works and his shadowed descriptions of the brutality oflife and war in Spain.
Goya’s Ghosts it’s a Xuxa’s Production S.L. inassociation with Kanzaman Films, directed by Milos Forman and produced by SaulZaentz from a script of the own Forman and Jean-Claude Carriere (Birth). PaulZaentz is the executive producer. And has been co-produced by Denise O’Dell andMark Albela.
Forman and Zaentz had already workedtogether on “Somebody flew over the coucou’s nest”, who received nine Oscar’snominations and wining five of them, among them, Best Film and Best Director. “Amadeus” was nominated in 11 categories ofthe Oscars and win eight, including Best Film and Best Director.
The last film of Forman has been ”Manon the moon”. Andhe has also directed “The people vs. Larry Flynt”, “Ragtime” and “Hair” among others. Saul Kaentz can count betweenhis lasts productions “The English patient” who won by a landslide with 12 nominationsand nine awards.
Jean-Claude Carriere has collaboratedwith Milos Forman in “Valmont” and “Taking Off”. And has been the author of more than 100 scripts, like “Thediscreet charm of the Bourgeoisie” or “The dark object of desire”. The photography director, Javier Aguirresarobe,obtained the Goya Adward in 2005 with “The Sea inside”.
Patrizia Von Brandenstein (Amadeus) is the production designer. Hermost recent work is “All King’s Men”.
The wardrobe was designed by Yvonne BLake(Nicholas and Alexander). She also winned the Goya Adward in 2005 for “The bridge of SaintLouis Rey”.
